Job Description



DSP - BEHAVIORAL HEALTH

 Provides care, supervision, instruction and support to individuals in accordance with State and Agency guildelines. Ensures the health, welfare and safety of each individual being supported. Promotes and provides opportunities for each individual to develop and grow towards greater independence.

  • Assist behaviorally involved individuals with household management, including shopping, meal preparation, cleaning, laundry, and all other household chores.  The Enhanced Resident Advisor is responsible for performing these duties in cases where the individuals do not/cannot participate.
  • Provide and support a therapeutic home environment and community experience.
  • Provide behavioral supports in accordance with Behavior Support Plan and all other recommended guidelines as appropriate.
  • Assist with and participate in medical appointments.


Qualifications

  • High School Diploma
  • 2 years of experience working with individuals with significant behavioral health challenges and/or experience with a dually- diagnosis population preferred.
  • Certification required before working in home – DSP Specialist, Positive Behavioral Support
  • For positions required to drive – valid driver’s license with a minimum of 3 year driving history and a driving record which meets the KenCrest Vehicle Safety Policy standards is required.
  • Criminal record and other background checks which meet KenCrest and state requirements
  • Achieve certification, through formal education and classroom training of all required competencies, including CPR, First Aid, and Medication Administration, Crisis Management, Physical Intervention Techniques, etc.
  • Ability to convey, understand and follow spoken and written instructions in English
  • A minimum of 15 hours per year of behavioral health specific training as determined by supervisor.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in:  Crisis Management, Safety Mechanics, & ability to attain certification in Physical Intervention Techniques.
  • 4 Days of shadowing a staff member in a behavioral health model home program
  •  Completion of identified online and/or in person training regarding behavioral health, based on home assignment.  This component will be designed into annual training requirement for this role going forward.

  • Ability to convey, understand and follow spoken and written instructions in English
