Assistant Teacher; Early Head Start

KenCrest Services’ early head start program provides quality childcare for young children with and without special needs.  We are seeking enthusiastic educators to join our team in providing comprehensive early head start services to children.

The Assistant Teacher  works collaborately with the Classroom Teacher to provide care and instruction in a stimulating classroom environment supporting infants, toddlers and their parents in a quality program. They will assist in developing and implementing weekly lesson plans, quarterly progress meetings, and two home visits per year. Assistant teachers work collaboratively as a team with classroom teacher and parents to provide meaningful and effective support and programming. Teamwork with program staff and support personnel is essential.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist teacher to maintain an enriching classroom learning environment as outlined in both the High Scope curriculum and the Head Start Performance Standards.
  • Participate in providing appropriate language, fine motor, gross motor, self - help and social, cognitive development activities.
  • Develop and implement weekly lessons plans utilizing the High Scope Curriculum in collaboration with the classroom teacher which are based on ongoing assessment of the group's developmental needs and which include individualization and adaptations for individual children.
  • Assist Teacher in maintaining a current and complete portfolio on each child by: recording observations daily; completing all required screenings and assessments; record information received from and given to family; collect work samples throughout the year.
  • Maintain appropriate child / children ratios at all times following safe supervision guidelines.
  • Records all feedings, naps and elimination habits of children.
  • Assist with meal preparation and family - style meal service.
  • Establish and maintain positive, supportive, professional communication with families.
  • Assist Teacher in facilitating parent conferences and preparing child progress reports and conference summaries two times a year.
  • Maintain an awareness of the community of the enrolled children and families and integrating, when applicable, aspects of the community into the classroon program.
  • Perform related tasks and maintain compliance with applicable regulations and quality standards as it relates to Keystone Stars, DHS and Funding Partnerships.
  • Participate in mandatory and elective in-service trainings.

Qualifications

  • Infant Toddler CDA and high school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education, preferred.
  • Experience working with infants and toddlers in a classroom setting.



Monday - Friday

8 hour work week ( hour may vary between 7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.)

Hourly Rate: 12.43
